Our proteins
We will never use poor quality meat meals that can often contain undesirable less-nutritive components. An increasing number of dogs are developing symptoms of allergies or sensitivities to many of these ingredients, which can also be linked to the way that they are processed.
For that reason, we will never use these ingredients and, instead, we will only use fresh minced meats, coming from sources we know and that can assure a high quality.
The meat arrives into the factory fresh and refrigerated, and is kept at less than 5ºC for no longer than 24 hours before being added to the food manufacturing process. We also are able to blend different meat cuts and parts, like heart, liver, muscle and carcass to obtain a perfect balance between minerals, protein, fat and flavour. This practice would be impossible using meat meals.
Our duck variety contains selected meats from farms with excellent welfare standards and extensive rearing practices, and they are delivered to the factory fresh and minced.
Duck meat provides an excellent palatability and a wonderful aroma, with an exceptional digestibility. Furthermore, by adding some cuts containing natural cartilage, the meat is also rich in joint protectors such as glucosamine and chondroitin.
Our pulses, seeds & tubers
Carbohydrates in the diet provide balance to a dog’s nutrition. Without them other nutrients, such as protein, fat, fibre, and minerals would need to increase to replace them, with far more disastrous consequences. Carbohydrates also provide energy, texture, flavour, and aroma.
What we do believe is that a high content of rapidly digested carbohydrates in the diet can be detrimental, as this can lead to obesity and diabetes. We therefore avoid using these high GI carbs alone and instead include a carefully selected blend of more unusual seeds, tubers, and pulses, with a wider range of glycaemic indexes.
Our combination of quinoa, chia, sweet potatoes, potatoes, peas and lentils, provides sustained energy release and satiety throughout the day, and helps to avoid high blood sugar levels that can contribute to obesity and diabetes. In addition, they provide natural sources of beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin B6, magnesium, iron & manganese, as well as pre-biotic dietary fibre to promote the proliferation of healthy gut bacteria.
Many of these ingredients are widely used throughout the world as staple carbohydrates, and are healthy alternatives to highly processed cereals found in many commercial diets of humans and dogs.
They are also gluten-free, non-GMO and ethically purchased from fully sustainable sources.
Our extras
To boost palatability even further we have selected a small range of ingredients designed to naturally enhance the flavours of the meat.
Yeast & malt extracts, and cooked duck liver (digest) are added to compliment the savoury, meaty tastes and aromas that your dog will find irresistible.
Also, organic honey, a natural source of antioxidants, boosts flavour whilst providing a natural disease defence.
Apple cider vinegar commonly associated with regulating blood sugar level and hence reduces the risk of diabetes and weight gain.
Antarctic krill, as a source of highly digestible omega-3 phospholipids, promotes an excellent skin & coat condition as well as helps to reduce inflammation throughout the body. Therefore, it is an ideal ingredient for helping to maintain healthy joints.
To complement the flavour of our meats we use coconut oil and a refined local duck fat that dogs find irresistible. As well as providing a rich source of omega-6 oils, duck fat is also an important source of energy.
Coconut oil, further to its beneficial properties is a very digestible fat that may help to control bodyweight.
Duck fat is used to coat the kibbles, thereby avoiding the cooking process, which can denature and destroy many of their beneficial qualities.
Spices, herbs & fruits
A key decision in the formulation of our food was whether to follow the popular trend of adding minute quantities of many fruits and vegetables only for marketing purposes or choose a small selection of high-quality ingredients with known nutritional benefits.
In the end the decision was simple. A pinch of apple and a sprinkle of broccoli will never benefit your dog.
However, the powerful antioxidant properties of blueberry and cranberry, included in substantial quantities, will no doubt promote heal the and vitality as they support body’s immune system to fight the free radicals.
Our naturally dried, rubbed herbs, nettle, dandelion & peppermint, have been selected to promote digestion and due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatories properties.
Our spices, turmeric, cinnamon & ginger, aid the control of blood sugar levels, and help to reduce inflammatory problems.
Supplements
Norwegian Ascophyllum seaweed is added for its contribution of phosphorus, calcium and iodine which promotes strong and healthy teeth and bones and fights the anaemia.
Added minerals, such as calcium, phosphorus, copper and zinc contribute in an essential way to the global body’s function as well as muscle, teeth and bone development.
MOS & FOS are also included in our recipe. These complex sugars promote the growth of healthy good bacteria and, therefore, help digestion and reduce the incidence of soft faeces.
Psyllium, a fibre source, aids as well digestion and promote firm and regular stools.
Yucca extract, coming from the sap of the Mojave yucca plant, reduces the faeces odour.
